Free nbn upgrade

I received a call from Telstra offering a free nbn upgrade that requires a software and hardware update for the modem. The consultant needed to connect to the modem and install a software upgrade first. Is this a legitimate offer from Telstra?

No it is not a legitimate offer. A speed upgrade does not require a change of modem firmware. The hacker will install malware on your device that will enable them to monitor your key strokes, steal your personal data or lock your files and demand a fee to unlock the files.
