Re: Hidden network on Telstra Smart Gen 2 modem keeps appearing. How do I make the network visible.

Thanks I tried that and the 2.4GHz had no signal whereas the 5GHz had a full signal. After looking at other posts have decided that there must be a fault with the modem’s 2.4Gz network as you say. Will contact Telstra for a replacement modem when I have the energy to do battle with them! Meanwhile I can print wireless direct which isn’t as convenient, but still need my video doorbell connecting. I’m presuming that this too like the printer only works on the 2.4GHz network. Thank you so much for your help. I now have the information I need to present to Telstra to claim a replacement.

The 5GHz hidden network is the network used for backhaul by the Telstra Gen 2 Smart Wi-Fi boosters. There is no way to make it visible or to turn it off.

Thanks for your reply. I wonder if you could help me further. How can I direct devices away from this hidden network and connect to the other network in the router . My iPad sometimes shows hidden network and my new printer can’t find my network connection so I suspect it is not finding the alternative to the 5GHz network.

Re: Hidden network on Telstra Smart Gen 2 modem keeps appearing. How do I make the network visible.

Most printers only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the modem's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Band could be faulty (This is a common problem with the Technicolor version of the Gen 2 Smart modem DJA0231). To test if the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is faulty log into modem (http://192.168.0.1, password is Telstra). go to Wi-Fi, turn of band steering in the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi settings and save settings. Turning of band steering will add -5G to the name of the modem's normal 5 GHz Wi-Fi. If both of the modem's Wi-Fi bands are working you should now see two Wi-Fi networks. )ne with the normal name (2.4GHz Band) and the other wit -5G added. If you only see the network wit -5G added the modem's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is faulty and you should contact Telstra support for a replacement modem under warranty.

Thanks will try that but will leave it until Wednesday as there’s a nbn network update in the area scheduled for tomorrow.

Do you know how long you have had the modem?

Not sure. Would have to look it up. Does this make a difference?

A loose or accidentally knocked cable can switch your Telstra Smart ModemTM to the Telstra mobile network from the fixed network, triggering the SMS/email notifications.

  • Connection via phone line
Ensure it is plugged securely into the grey DSL port.
  • Connection via a fibre or cable entry modem (FTTP/HFC cable )
Ensure the ethernet from entry modem is plugged securely into the red WAN port.

Not sure what you are responding to, but that has nothing to do with the OP's problem.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
