High latency from Perth to Singapore Server

Hi Telstra Team,

I have just switched to Telstra NBN (Plan 25/5) on this Monday from Telstra ADSL 2+. I have tested the NBN speed (Speedtest.net) that looks wonderful compared with Telstra ADSL 2+.

ADSL 2+ Testing result:

MS: 20

Download: 8-10mb (Average)

Upload: Less than 1mb

NBN Testing result:

MS: 9

Download: 23-24mb (Average)

Upload: 4.5-4.7mb

However, come back to the gaming latency to the Singapore server. The result is really bad.

Server IP: 209.58.178.32

ADSL 2+

Latency: 70-100 (This is only for WAN IP starting with 61.XX.XX.XXX) Why??

(Other WAN IP Starting with 101.XXX.XXX.XX or others, that will jump up to 200-300 latency, something to do with the international routing) I dont know. Therefore, I will have to keep restarting my modem to get a better IP.

NBN

Latency: 220-300 (Average)

(Keep restarting modem, always getting the same IP)

I am not sure if Telstra can't help me to fix this. I called Technical team last night. They can't resolve the issue.

I would rather stay at ADSL 2+.

Appreciated if Telstra team can help. I know the cable between Perth and Singapore have been fixed on 16th Jan 17.

Regards,
Jason

Re: High latency from Perth to Singapore Server

Are you still experiencing difficulties with this?

Can you provide an example of your traceroute and advise which state you are in?

Re: High latency from Perth to Singapore Server

Hi Sheely,

I will do a testing tonight.  I am in Perth.

Unfortuntely, Wednesday Thunderstoms killed my Lan Port. My computer cannot dedect my modem at all even though i got Lan cable connected (Status "Network cable unplugged). All driver and setting are all ok. The Lan procesing light was off.

I have bought a new network card today. I will come back to you tonight.

Jason

Re: High latency from Perth to Singapore Server

Hi Shelly,

Please refer below traceroute. I can see my IP address has been updated to 101.177.xx.xx. If I used the IP address starting with 124.xxx.xxx.xx, the latency will be very high. Now go down to 170ms from 250.

Re: High latency from Perth to Singapore Server

Hi Shelly,

Yes, I am still experiencing the latency problem. Please refer below traceroute result. My IP has been updated to 101.177.XXX.XX. Now the latency has been reduced to 170ms from 250ms. Previous IP address was 124.XXX.XX.XX and the latency was 250-300ms. My question is that the different IP address will determine the line speed and also the latency ms?

Re: High latency from Perth to Singapore Server

The IP address does not have any impact on the speed available to your service. I believe that there may have been other factors that contributed to your experience. Read through the following links regarding speed and ping.

Re: High latency from Perth to Singapore Server

I am sure IP address will aftect the latency. I have done the testing.

Your answer is very standard Telstra answer.

Thanks
