NBN (FTTB) username and password for BYO Modems

Answered

Hi All

Got moved over Telstra NBN (FTTB) this morning all good awesome experience and speeds!

My question is where can I get my username and password for the connection? I want to use a BYO modem and need the info

The TG799AC Gateway Max that Telstra sent me seems to be preprogrammed with username/password which I didnt receive in any documentation.

Looking at the admin console of the modem I can see the following under PPP Credential setting

Username: newdsluser@bigpond.com

Password: *********

So how would i find out the password? (The username is obviously not the same as ADSL as that was my bigpond username which was unique)

cheers

david

Re: NBN (FTTB) username and password for BYO Modems

Ok first thing I have found out through my average google skills

Telstra use IPoE for NBN internet connections I think this means no username and password is used is this correct?

So any NBN VDSL2 modem I plug in will just work?

Yup IPoE for the NBN

in theory yes however mileage can vary depending on what chipset the modem uses for VDSL and whether or not you have to adjust particular settings in the modem.

Has there been an update to this list of known working modems?

Hey @MJ78,

I am not sure what modem you have however the following link provides some information on VPN that you may find helpful: https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Modems-Hardware/VPN-setup-through-Technicolor-TG799vac-FTTN-V...

Let me know how you go.
