NBN installation, is it needed when I already have Cable internet?

Hi,

Just got my confirmation of NBN install. Why do I have to be home for it?

Is there a reason? I already have cable and happy to just change over the modem to crap NBN. Does anything else need to be installed? I gathered they're using the same cable that my old cable used?

Also, I heard the speed will drop? I'd hope not as cable is extremely fast and I'm paying an extra $30 for NBN.

Cheers,

Michael

Have you got the NBN Supplied modem? (Arris CM8200).

Generally they will have to come and install it

I get the modem today and I can install it, so not sure why they'd be coming out?

Essentially NBN have to install their modem, which becomes the network termination device/boundary point (Laymans terms: RSP's can't touch it). That's pretty much the rules as dictated by NBN for their HFC connections

Quite strange IMO.

I'm a network engineer and I think taking time off work so someone can plug in a cable into a network device is actually a joke.
