No dial tone in home phone

After changing to a new ADSL modem and then back to the original one (due to the new one continually cutting out) we seem to have lost our dial tone.

Three things come to mind.


1. If you have a Central Splitter/Filter, when you plugged the modem back in, did you plug it in to the correct socket?


2. What happens if you unplug the modem completely, do you get the dial tone back?


3. After eliminating 1 and 2, you probably have a faulty line and need to report a "Land Line Fault" to 132203. Do not mention anything about Internet unless asked as this will just send the service centre operator of on a new script and get the wrong instructions to the field Technician.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
