No internet access on NBN

We got NBN connected a month ago when we moved house but have never had any internet access.

 

After dozens of calls and hours of time spent talking to Telstra, the only reason they have given me for our lack of internet access is that we have a static IP address (obtained at our previous address when I needed it to log into a work computer remotely) and it won't allow internet access on our NBN modem. I have asked Telstra (6 times) to organise a dynamic IP address to enable us to have internet access but it never happens.

 

What can I do to get internet access? An entire month without internet when I work from home is incredibly stressful and I cannot believe that Telstra is unable to resolve the issue.
