Online chat support

I have spent nine and a half hours on the online support chat trying to get a technician organised to come and fix my NBN connection. I’d guess at least four different people came and went. I was repeatedly asked to plug the WAN cable into my laptop, despite repeatedly explaining that I didn’t have a port for that on my computer. I was told that they might be able to book a tech, but it would probably be cancelled. When there was finally agreement that a technician might be the solution and it would take five minutes to sort out, the online chat stopped. I’ve waited more than an hour now to see if anyone was going to respond. How are other people managing to get services? I have lodged a complaint, but the message suggests it could be up to ten working days before it can be addressed.
