Rubbish nbn speeds

We live in Aberglasslyn NSW and recently moved to the NBN. We are getting less than 1Mps download speed. Telstra tell us its a congestion problem. NBN has only just come to the area. How can it be congested?. Is this just Telstra spin?. Anyone else having or had this issue? Should we be looking to another provider?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: Rubbish nbn speeds

What type on NBN is it? Is it FTTN?
If it is FTTN can you post your modem stats

The line speed, attenuation, snr, those sort of stats can help the community better provide you more accurate information about causes and the like.

Re: Rubbish nbn speeds

Now telstra tell us that it will be another week before the congestion is fixed. What a load of crap.

Re: Rubbish nbn speeds

That downstream attenuation is very high for VDSL, and downstream noise is below spec. This is not congestion related as your actual line sync rate is very low. Definitely looks like a fault

Telstra NBN Assurance. Looks like a line fault between the premises and the Node. Ultimately they may need to put a ticket through for NBN to investigate

Re: Rubbish nbn speeds

Sorry for hijacking this comment, but it's received some attention which my posts have not -

If you get some spare time Yastiandrie could you please look into my line this is my ping stats for my lastest ping to google.

Ping statistics for 2404:6800:4006:806::200e:
Packets: Sent = 30, Received = 22, Lost = 8 (26% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 39ms, Maximum = 44ms, Average = 40ms

Before switching to NBN last week I had no connection issues what so ever - packet loss was not an issue -  now, however it has made online gaming impossible.

Thanks for your time

Re: Rubbish nbn speeds

Good luck with it i have been told the same excuses waiting 3 months now. Also have been told by bigpond tech that FTTN copper lines to the house is not physically capable of supporting any faster than 25mbps which is absolutely rubbish
As my neighbor is with a different isp and on a 50mbps plan and has constant speeds of 48mbps.
I have my daughter in a house two streets away and on a different node and on telstra speed boost plan 100mbps and having speeds of 95mbps.
Cheers

Re: Rubbish nbn speeds

@JamieStar88 based on your stats you will not get close to 100/40, or 50/20 for that matter. Nothing to do with congestion, you are hard limited by the technology.

Line Attenuation (Pretty much distance line length to the NBN node) of 25.5 basically puts your current speeds as the best you can get. Sorry, but you lost out on Malcolm Turnbull's 'Node Lotto"
