SMTP incoming connections blocked



I have been running my own private mail server on our BigPond Cable service for the last three or four months without issue. All of  a sudden recently emails stopped being delivered and people are reporting their emails to me are bouncing back.


Looking at those emails it is apparent that port 25 is blocked as connections are being refused.


I've used an SMTP test tool and it is unable to establish a connection to my mail server either.


Can a Telstra Broadband rep confirm for me if the port has been blocked?

Try using port 587 instead. Port 25 is blocked by most ISPs in an attempt to reduce the amount of SPAM that gets through.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
