Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 / NBN / Phantom Calls

I am receiving ‘Phantom Rings’ and my ‘Missed Call Log’ is incremented each 36 minutes (the phone does not actually ring to alert me of an incoming call however the screen illuminates and the Talk button flashes for about 10 seconds on my V-Tech phone model 18150).

I think this happen when Telstra “pings” or sends a Reversal and FSK signal/tone to establish that their Smart Modem (linked to the NBN network) is still on-line.

I am advised this also affects some Uniden and Panasonic cordless NBN compatible phones, and only started after Telstra performed an upgrade to their NBN network/equipment set-up.

I have disabled Voice Mail, SMS messaging and Call-waiting to try to prevent this happening but the problem still occurs.

Does this Telstra “ping” comply with the telephone “Standard S.0002” thus causing my phone to operate incorrectly?

Will Telstra correct this issue, or will I and everyone else have to transfer to another service provider so our phones will not be affected?
