Velocity speed boost restrictions.

Answered

Anyone heard anything on when the speed boost restrictions on Velocity will be lifted?

I have Premium Speed Boost activated under my account, but being new to Velocity they will not allow 100/2 only give me 30/1 on an FTTP premises.

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

If you experience lag when uploading to cloud services, this is because the acknowledgement packets of your downloads are being queued behind the uploads. To address this issue, most programs will allow you to limit the upload bandwidth that it will use, which will free up bandwidth for other activities being performed at the same time. Aim for about 60-70% of your maximum upload speed for your programs that upload to cloud services.

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

Thank you for your reply, when I search my address is get this,

Based on this article on Telstra Exchange, cable customers are upgraded to new speed tiers, https://exchange.telstra.com.au/cable-speed-upgrade/

If you’re on our standard cable speed tier your maximum download speeds will rise from 30Mbps to a maximum of 50Mbps, while your upload speeds will lift from up to 1Mbps to a maximum of 5Mbps.

And, if you are a customer with a cable speed boost, you will also see your upload speeds lift from 2Mbps to 5Mbps.

The boost for cable customers follows our move last month to upgrade more than 850,000 Telstra home and small business customers to the Standard Plus speed tier at no additional cost.

It seems like a similar cable speeds i am on, but not getting the new 50/2.

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

They should really advertise no speed boost for new customers, because the 2018 Critical summary from the Velocity website shows;

  • For Cable customers, a Premium Evening Speed Boost is available
    for $20/mth.
Your bill will show an additional charge each month for your speed
upgrade. If you already have a Speed Boost then you will continue
to receive your Speed Boost and be charged for it each month
    unless you cancel it.

Also, the email they sent me quoting in my plan,

  • Bonuses & Add-ons - A Speed Boost – Premium Evening Speed for no additional cost.

Not to mention i can enable the service under the Telstra 24x7 My Account.

  • Speed Boost Premium Speed Boost
    Status: Active

Speed Boost can provide you maximum download speeds of up to 100Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2 Mbps in your home

The only advertised information i can find is,

  • Telstra Velocity network speeds
With Telstra Velocity, you’ll enjoy typical minimum speeds of 10Mbps between 7pm and 11pm.

With false advertising and contracts, they are just disappointing new customers with their over the phone service policy by not giving the service we need. Hence why I am looking for when speed restrictions for new customers are lifted.

Hi @cognitiveant,

Our Billing team via secure Live Chat here:  http://tel.st/hsc3 can check your current account set up, as you should not be paying for a Speed Boost option if it's not available to you.

Thank you for your reply,
This was based on when Velocity speed restrictions will be lifted, not billing issues.

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

Thanks, but as I mentioned it's not a billing issue.

Just trying to find more information on Velocity future speed limits in my new area. As 30/1mbps is prone to lag & latency, while uploading to cloud services and using multiple computers. The problem I didn't have on NBN's 40Mbps (download) / 15Mbps (upload) tier.

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

Thanks for the reply,

Yeah, already do things like this.  Plus use QOS and use router with bit more grunt than Telstra routers.

1Mbps upload is still slow for uploading larger files, as that only equates to 0.125 MB/s on a FTTP connection.

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

Telstra's lack of support on the Velocity FTTP makes me angry. Charging us a fortune for a subpar network. The speeds offered by Telstra are just insulting. It's probably the worlds slowest Fibre network.

I don't know why the government is ignoring the velocity estates. Unlike other pre-existing fibre networks. The network doesn't meet the "Adequately Served" requirements. No competition and slow speeds.

I predict soon a wireless provider will fill in the gap (5G or fixed wireless) and everyone is going to jump from Telstra's subpar Fibre network to a competitors wireless network which will be faster and cheaper.

If you call through to the velocity team they would be able to confirm that upgrades are in the works. However I'm not aware of the schedule being made public nor of an official announcement yet in regards to the upgrades

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

I called up, they have confirmed to fixing up congestion issues and sounds like speed boost will return once that's done. But there is no work to get the upload speeds beyond 5Mbps. Also no IPv6 support in the works.

Yeah, I called a week ago and they said we will be getting 5Mbps upload with the upgrade.

I have FTTP, during peak time 6PM - 12AM, my download speed range only 3 - 5Mbps, even slower than my previous ADSL2. Very slow even just for browsing.

Re: Velocity speed boost restrictions.

Any updates to share???

I've been awaiting information.....hopefully the keep us posted....

Disappointing we got left behind as our cable friends get further speed increases in below;
