VPN over NBN

Hi Guys,

Working on a issue for a CEO of a company at the moment.

Telstra has provided him a NBN connection to his property over HFC. Telstra has also provided him with a Netgear V7610 router. The connection is working perfectly.

He has requested he has a VPN setup to enable him to watch Netflix and various other sports.

The IT team has gone out and purchased a Dlink DIR880L router that they have configured with Pure VPN.

When we test this is the office with the same make modem over a ADSL connection all works.

The second we plug it in at his house the Netgear instantly looses its connection. Drop Out.

They have taken a Netgear Nighthawk M1 wifi router and that works perfectly when plugged into the Dlink.

I dont think there is a compatibility issue with the hardware, it almost seem like there is a issue with NBN and this VPN setup.

Thought and Ideas, as this is pretty urgent.

We cant leave the Nighthawk as a permanent solution.

Nik

Re: VPN over NBN

Honestly, the only thing I can think of is that there may be some misconfiguration of the Netgear / DLink setup. I'd start checking all the settings in both and connecting cables.
Also at his house is the Netgear router setup as a BRIDGED modem, with all the routing functions done by the DLink?

Re: VPN over NBN

Does it do the same thing if you plug the 880L directly into the Arris modem?

Re: VPN over NBN

Yastiandrie, techs didnt try pluging directly into the NTU, as then it will constantly be running VPN and thats what they are trying to avoid as this will slow down Working in Australia.

mazinoz, They dont want to run bridged mode again as this will then be masking his IP in Australia for normal day to day. When tested in the office on the ADSL they didnt have to run the Netgear in bridged it just worked, Plug and Play.

He wants to be able to use the Wifi single from the Telstra Gateway to do everything as per normal, tunnel into work and do emails and what not, then have his TV connected to the Dlink VPN gateway strictly for his Netflix and sports.

Re: VPN over NBN

The techs should of checked that anyway to determine if the issue is network or CPE related.

Also is the router being connected via a LAN or the WAN port?

LAN TO WAN. Telstra Gateway LAN to Dlink WAN.
