Home phone on NBN query

I am writing on behalf of my In-laws, Both 89 years old and living in Loch Sport Vic.


They have both been suffering health issues and were away from home over Xmas. Upon the return home of my Mother-in-Law, their home phone was inoperable. Having contacted Telstra, the phone is now working, presumably on NBN via their existing Tesltra Home Phone plan with regional extras.


My M-i-L was also left with a magnetic card detailing "Your WIFI details" containing the WIFI names and password. She believes the phone is on the same plan as before, has signed no contracts or connected an "NBN Provider"

Does this mean that she now has a WIFI service? With whom is the service? is it part of the existing plan (i.e. is it chargeable}"if it is not part of the plan, why does she need the WIFI details at all? Will their charges change? will their Pensioner Discount remain?


This all a bit too difficult for them at the moment hence my email question

Phone only services on the NBN still require a modem to be installed (because of the way voice technology is delivered), they just wont get any internet through it.

In your M-i-L's case, she wont need the WiFi details but i'd keep them safe just in case the modem ever gets used for an internet service
