Home phone- We have no dial tone. how do we know if there is something wrong with the phone.

We have no dial tone, how do we know if there is something wrong with the handset, because if someone rings we can't hear them, they can hear us. Telstra are trying to help with the Landline!

If you have a NBN service the fault could be with the modem or the handset. You could try factory reseting modem to fix problem.

 

If the handset is connected back to the exchange the problem could be due to  faulty equipment in the exchange or the handset. 

 

The only way to test if handset is faulty is to try another handset.
