No handset
Telstra installed a new landline at my house but did not provide a handset. Should Telstra have provided a handset? How do I get one?

No, a handset is not a standard part of a line connection. You can get Telstra to provide a handset, however it is either as a rental phone (starting from $3/month for T1000S), you can get selected handsets on repayment options starting at $2/m for the Telstra CG302, or can also purchase a handset outright, from Telstra or any third party retailer. Telstra's outright handset start at $29 for the Telstra 12200.
