Yes, you plug it in to the Green Phone Port on the modem.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

The 'FTTC modem' is probably a Telstra Smart Modem 2?

In which case the Corded desktop handset would connect to the green 'Phone' port on the modem..

Note that the handset requires a power connection as well - for the display, handsfree and memory functions etc.

If the modem is not in a convenient location, have a look at some of the cordless options..

Devices like the Telstra Smart handset actually pair to the modem (slightly different to a cable connection to the modem port) and you can add more than one handset. One in the living area and one in the bedroom for example.. which might be friendlier to your parents?

Not sure which bit you couldn't understand..

"In which case the Corded desktop handset would connect to the green 'Phone' port on the modem..  Note that the handset requires a power connection as well - for the display, handsfree and memory functions etc."

the first bit was just to confirm what the 'FTTC Modem' was..
