Telstra has installed message bank on my landline phone without authority.

I recently checked my landline phone which I only have as a backup in case mobile coverage fails which it has several times with stormy weather or bushfires. I am in the country for most of the time and it is useful to have a landline in case power goes out. It is an older Telstra phone that works without power.

I set it up without message bank and the number is private. Telstra has unilaterally decided that they will install message bank on this phone. I do not want message bank as it implies that the phone is monitored which it is not.

I am trying to ring Telstra to have it cancelled. It's been nearly half an hour of waiting and I have Platinum.

I wonder if there is any way I can get rid of message bank from here?
