Telstra Smart Modem Gen2 and Hill Home Hub Phone Telephone Module

Hi,

I would like to use the Telephone Module (HTM-408SRJ) wiring in my

Hills Home Hub again.  Ever since we had the NBN connected, our home phone has

been connected directly into the Telstra Smart Modem Gen2 RJ12 phone socket.

The problem with this is,

(a) The home phone is in the 'garage' and

(b) You only have 'one' phone connection.

Prior to the NBN, we use to have 3 phones connected to the Hills Telephone Module. 

At the moment, this seems to be the only connection option for our home phone that

works.

Does anyone know, how to connect the Telstra Smart Moden Gen2

phone connection to the Hills Home Hub Telephone Module (HTM-408SRJ)?  

So that, you can make use of your home phone cabling again.

You'd need to have a licensed electrician or cabler to connect your hills home hub to the Smart Modems phone port.

Would you know, how the Phone port in the Telstra Smart Modem Gen2 is wired?

It is a RJ11 4 pin (supports two phone lines) or RJ12 (supports three phone lines).

I tried cabling it as follows, but it didn't work:

RJ12

Line 1 - Pins 3 and 4 (middle)

Line 2 - Pins 2 and 3 (outer)

Line 3 - Pins 1 and 6 (ends)

The Hills Home Hub Telephone Module uses Cat 5 cabling (4 pairs) and consequently

can support 4 inbound phone Lines.

Just take a standard phone cable, cut of one end and use the blue and white wires to connect to your Hills unit.

The port on the modem supports one line only.

the only way you might be able to do this is having your modem in the home hub cabinet, you then need to have the phone line go straight into your modem, after which you then put the phone out of your modem into the input of the phone line in, that way it should work. as they have changed the way phone lines work in the house it is hard to get them to all work. Either that or get your self some wifi phone and then you can have them in any room in the house.
