3G/4G router with LAN

Hey guys,

What would you guys recommend if I need a 3G/4G capable router which also has 4 LAN ports?

We have three of the older Telstra 3G Gateways, which work great, but they are all aging:

We use these when we open new sites and can't get broadband into the site quick enough, or when there's an internet outage for more than a day we send one out as temporary internet.

All of our sites are small, with two computers, a music player and a printer needing to connect to internet, and we'd prefer not to go something like a Nighthawk with a switch, as this will cause a lot of headache sending it out to site and having the site staff set it up (I know, it's literally one extra piece and one extra cable, but we deal with numpties).

I've had a look at Huawei devices (like the B315), which all seem to be incompatible with Telstra, Netgear devices which only seem to have one ethernet, and I'm now looking into devices which are way too expensive for the kind of work we'll be doing with them (>$1,000).

I've also looked into getting the docking stations which are floating around in Telstra stores at the moment, but we can see that our staff will unknowingly knock these, and the mobile device will fall out.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi damiankw-,

Our new Telstra Smart Modem may be what you're looking for. It has 4 x Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and 4G Mobile Backup capabilities.

If you're looking at mobile broadband options, you could try something like a Nighthawk m1 and connect an unmanaged 4 port switch to it. You can pick these up pretty cheap from places like officeworks

The Advance III and Cradle could do the job as well as it has the 4 ports inbuilt.

Definitely, but I assumed that's what the OP was referring to when he was talking about docking stations

Re: 3G/4G router with LAN

...Right, missed that the first read, whoops, sorry OP, but did see the "prefer not to go something like a Nighthawk with a switch" and was trying to find an alternative for that.

Ruling out both the Nighthawk and the Advance III is really going to limit options from Telstra directly.

Might need to look at third-party options, looking around one of the only ones which actually supports the right bands that I can find is the Dlink DWR-921
https://www.dlink.com.au/home-solutions/DWR-921-4g-lte-router-with-standard-size-sim-card-slot
https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/d-link-4g-lte-router-with-sim-card-slot-dwr-921-dl...

The DP-Link ones are missing the 3G band for Telstra and a couple of 4G bands, so are the other DLink ones, Netgear has them for Europe and US but not for Australia...
