5G Home Internet Modem Error message Receive deauthentication, reason_code=1

Hi,

To check how fast is 5G Home Internet service, measured the speed using Wi-Fi Connection to 5G Home Internet Modem and then connected to the 5G Modem via Lan cable into Modem LAN port. Measured the speed and as expected LAN cable was a bit faster than Wi-Fi. The unplugged the LAN cable and tried to connect via Wi-Fi and keep getting the following error message in the 5G Home Modem Logs :

As you can see from the above timestamps that this problem has been going on for some time. 

Have done the usual many times, that is reset, factory reset the modem and and windows laptop.

Can you please tell me what reason_code = 1 means and what you think may have caused this.

What is the 5G Home Modem make/model and firmware?

 

Can you advise what device you ran the test from? and the OS?

 

And this has been occuring continuously between the start and end date of that log? or just at the change of network from LAN to Wi-Fi? Does it occur on the reverse network change i.e. Wi-Fi to LAN?

 

Were there any periods in that time span where it was OK?

 

Code = 1 might mean Network Change (but I don't the device/firmware).

ATH means it's on the 5G wifi. Reason Code 1 is a pain as it means unspecified failure, the example that is given in the standard is "if there is no SSID in the association request".

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Was working fine until I changed to LAN and then never worked afterwards on Wi-Fi. 

 

Windows 7 IBM ThinkPad laptop.

Windows 7 has detected the SSID. 

Gets information from the SSID to then ask for 8 digit Pin or Security code.

When I select connect using security code, it then asks for security key.

When i enter the security key it then tries to connect and get the same response when I enter both correct and incorrect security key. For both correct and incorrect security code get the same error message : 

Receive deauthentication <laptop mac address>, reason_code=1

The same security key works on another laptop , TV and Android phones.

Not going to replicate this problem on another device, that is connect LAN and then WiFi. Might lose WiFi Connectivity from another device in the house. 

On this laptop that cannot connect via WiFi to 5H Modem, connected a Netgear wireless router to the 5G Home modem LAN port. And then connect to Internet via WiFi to Netgear. But the download speed is less than 20 Mbps and upload around 2 Mbps.

I had a play with one of these modems late last year and found that I had to play around with the Wi-Fi settings in order to get some of my older devices to connect and to have a reasonable speed.

 

Try changing the Wi-fi Authentication method to WPA /WPA2 Mixed Personal. (WLAN > Main WLAN). If that doesn't work try changing Wireless mode or channel bandwidth.

Changing WPA3 to WPA2 has fixed the problem. In all the resetting, the modem must have automatically changed to WPA3.

 

Its all good and working now.
