Devices dropping connection to Telstra 4GX modem

My Telstra 4GX mobile modem keeps dropping connections to my devices. The modem is supposed to handle up to 10 devices but it's struggling to manage 8. Wifi reception is fine and is extended with a Netgear router. Speed is good.
I asked at the Telstra shop and they want me to upgrade to a Nighthawk wifi modem but I'd have to pay out $100 for the 4GX modem and then start a new plan at a higher cost.
I'd be grateful for ideas to make my mobile modem stop dropping connections so I can hang onto it.
