Local 4G tower poor performance

 Hi guys.

I understand that with everything virus related the mobile network is under pressure, but my local tower is just not keeping up.

Im wondering who I can get hold of to see if it can be upgraded or something like that.

Right now, at 7 am I get roughly 2.5-3.0 mbs which is great, and why I have the service in the first place.

However later during the day, it drops to 0.08. Which is unacceptable for the premium price I am paying.

Obviously, I have no other choice of internet connection (bar satellite) and I would like to be receiving the performance I am paying for....

Thanks.

Re: Local 4G tower poor performance

Hi - are these speeds on a NBN Fixed Wireless service, a 4G/3G Mobile Broadband Modem, your mobile phone configured as a 4G/3G Mobile Phone Hotspot with one remote active Wi-Fi device connected to it , or just from your Mobile Phone or SIM enabled Tablet?

How are you measuring them if the first two options have a LAN socket connection as a possibility. Depending on your circumstances and budget, there may be repeater solutions for the non Fixed Wireless options.

Re: Local 4G tower poor performance

Hi mate,

Thanks for your reply. Im using the 3/4G network as fixed wireless doesnt reach this far.

Im using a Netgear 4gx advanced 3 in a DC112A cradle, then feeding this PC via cat5

I dont think the hardware is at fault as I can have good speeds while everyone is still asleep....

Im using ozspeed test as the speed test server, in terms of budget, there isnt one. Id be happy to get my internet sorted.

Re: Local 4G tower poor performance

There are many factors at play. Here is some reading for you to help understand some possibilities. If you have always had the higher speeds mentioned, it may indicate you are a fair distance from the cell tower/towers in your area. This link will show you where they are located. https://www.rfnsa.com.au/?first=1

I assume you have located the Netgear to its strongest signal position in home. I recommended once to one of my friends to place his broadband modem with rabbit ears outside on the verandah under cover, to get a stronger signal and it worked for him.

On the cradle, do you have the rabbit ear antennae connected or the antennae extended to an external high gain antenna for better reception? These are generally limited to limited amplification. In terms of solutions, you may gain some knowledge  of practical experiences from your neighbours or people in town or locality.  Also if you have any Telecommunications or local Antenna companies that specialise in installing add-on improvements or sub contract to NBN for their Fixed Wireless or Satellite Installs.

I am impressed with the Ce-Fi Go Mobile or Stationary 3G/4G Repeater Product family - they have strong amplification - Telstra sell the Go Model as well and appear to offer them on a 36 month plan as an alternative to outright purchase. They may be deemed expensive to purchase but it comes down to what you need. They are carrier specific models. Again seek local advice from Telstra about the practicalities associated with your location; they may be planning to do changes that improve matters in the network.

Hope this helps.

Re: Local 4G tower poor performance

Thanks again for the reply. Very interesting. I have a Yagi antenna pointed at the cell station I have better line of sight too. Its been done with a GPS.

Like mentioned, if the hardware can produce good speeds under all weather conditions, but not when the tower is loaded its not my hardware.

Im interested in the fixed wireless repeater though..

A good read for me. Thanks!
