Using SIM from 5G wifi modem in a 4G wifi modem

I currently have a Medium Data Plan using the 5G wifi modem, which should be plenty of data for me, but the nature of the 5G means I am using it all well before the end of the month. I would like to use this SIM in a 4G modem like the nighthawk m2 or the 4GX Pro or Advanced II.

Will it work? I know that when there is no 5G coverage my own modem will drop to 4G so there should be no issues, but as we all know, with technology common-sense goes out the window.

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

The 5G SIM should work in the 4G modem. You could also try changing network settings in your current modem so that it will only connect to 4G or 3G networks.

Have you tried going to Settings > Network > Network Selection and changing to LTE? See page 7 of manual.

Is that what LTE means?
