is upgrading mandatory?

I have paid 18 months out of my 24 month contract. I am wondering if I need to upgrade to a new device & plan at the end of my contract? Or can I continue using the same device and just pay for data & calls/texts instead?
** I don't want to have to switch to a prepaid plan, I currently pay by direct debit. Can this continue, and only charge me for the data & calls/texts?

Your plan does not change at the end of a minimum contract term period. It continues on a month to month basis on the existing terms (unless Telstra migrates you to one of the current range of plans, which happens when they decide to remove a grandfathered plan from their system - you get 30 days notice if that is going to occur).

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

With direct debit there’s no need to give paying your bill another thought.
