New customer deals

Aware there has been a bit of chat on this sorry if I'm rehashing old territory. 
Currently JBHIFI and the goodguys have a $500 gift card for new customers to Telstra on the plan I'm just currently finishing up on and could renew with. 

You classify as a new customer if you haven't been a Telstra customer in the last month. 
So I guess the way to jump on one of these deals is just switch provider for a month and then get whatever deal is being offered then. 

 

Has anyone had experience with this? Or in talking to the sales team allowed you to get whatever deal is being currently offered?
