Why is a credit check necessary when changing a mobile plan?

My wife is a Telstra customer of 50 years standing. Her account is paid by direct debit on her Platinum credit card monthly and she has never missed any payment; 600 so far and counting. When she tried to increase her plan by $10/month, the operator started asking about her source of income.

Re: Why is a credit check necessary when changing a mobile plan?

Short answer: Regulations require it.

The ACCC enforced actions on the carriers a few years ago to ensure that customers have the capacity to pay for goods and/or services that they are applying for. This now occurs when you change plans or buy a device on a repayment plan.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Set it & forget it

With direct debit there’s no need to give paying your bill another thought.

Avoid queuing up and never worry about late fees again.

Setup direct debit
