Like @MurrayWA I either need to set the DNS on the modem itself or have the DHCP server offer 1.1.1.2 (cloudflare's malware-blocking DNS - https://one.one.one.one/family/).
This change is mandatory, yet there's no obvious way to configure it on the Arcadyan LH1000 firmware 0.12.15r.
Guess I have to put a proper router in
