Chromecast can't connect to Thomson TG782t

Answered

Hello,

I bought a Chromecast dongle and I followed the instructions, entered the right password etc but it says it can't connect to the wi-fi.

Internet and wi-fi work fine as I've got other devices using the wi-fi. I even disconnected all of them in case I had reached the quota of allowed devices.

I have a Thomson TG782t. It's not even listed on the Chromecast compatibility list.

Any idea, anyone please?

thanks

Re: Chromecast can't connect to Thomson TG782t

G'day @CassHW,

That's a REALLY old modem, retired years ago (stilll works obviously)

It's entirely possible that the modem won't support the correct protocols for the Chromecast, but a brief look at the specs on the modem makes me thing it should.

I'd go through the troubleshooting steps here:

let us know how you go, and maybe we can look further.

Re: Chromecast can't connect to Thomson TG782t

Hi @Wanglese and thank you for your reply.

I did the troubleshooting with no vail but after looking at the specs of the modem and the Chromecast, well the Chromecast requires 802.11n (2.4GHz) and the modem doesn't have this.

So it looks like I will need a new modem.

Thanks for your help Smiley Happy

Re: Chromecast can't connect to Thomson TG782t

For the information of anyone interested: In the last week, I have seen two Chromecasts set up with Telstra TG782 routers. One was a bit slow to to establish a connection, the other was trouble-free. So they will connect to a 802.11g wireless network.

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
