configure Asus rt-ac88u router with telstra gen2 modem

Answered

I have FTTN Internet at home.

I have just bought an Asus RT-Ac88u router and am trying to configure this with my current Telstra modem.

I have turned Wi-Fi off for my telstra modem and connected LAN1 (telstra) to WAN port of ASUS router.

I have set up wifi of ASUS and connected my phone and laptop to asus router wifi. But my wifi keeps dropping from 35mbps to 3 mbps or sometimes even less.

I am using network adapter on my desktop. desktop speed is not changing but wifi is dropping to super slow speed or sometimes to zero

Can someone please help and guide me if I am doing something wrong...

Also Does turning wifi off on telstra modem means its in bridge mode or do i need to perform some other task. I have search everywhere and old forums too but couldnt find any help.

Thanks

Bridging modem should not effect the phone diversion.

See section 14 of the document linked in this post for how to Bridge the modem.

Re: configure Asus rt-ac88u router with telstra gen2 modem

Turning of WiFi does not Bridge the modem. Instructions for bridging modem depend on which version of the Gen 2 modem. Bridging modem disables 4G backup and phone function of modem.

To fix speed problem suggest you disable quality of service settings.

Re: configure Asus rt-ac88u router with telstra gen2 modem

The model number of Telstra modem is DJA0230

GW: DSLCBA230TEV1

Can u please provide a link or something to enable Bridge mode on this modem.

I don't use landline phone at all but I have asked Telstra to permanently create a fwd to my mobile from my landline number.

I hope by doing this it won't stop my landline divert which is done by Telstra on their backend.

Thanks for all your help

You sir are hands down A living  legend.

Last question please.

Is there a way I can keep backup 4g capability on and use my Asus router too.

Thanks

Re: configure Asus rt-ac88u router with telstra gen2 modem

The only way to keep backup is not Bridge the Telstra modem. If the Telstra modem is left in normal mode and the AUSUs router is set in the DMZ of Telstra modem most of the problems due to double NAT are fixed.

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
