Dynamic DNS provider - DuckDNS - How to?

Hi Telstra Modem team,

I have a Telstra Smart modem and am trying to configure the DDNS provider option in your modems for DuckDNS, but the fields asked for, don't line up with the details for DuckDNS.

Can you please advise how to configure this DDNS provider?

Thanks

From memory there is a pull down menu that lists DuckDNS. It may speed things up if you could PrtScn and attempt to upload an image. What fields are the issue?

Re: Dynamic DNS provider - DuckDNS - How to?

Yes DuckDNS is listed in the drop down list, this is what I'm using, its asking for a domain/username/password combo, but these fields are not used by DuckDNS.

DuckDNS doesn't have a username/password, everything it OAUTH, and DuckDNS uses a token ID to authenticate for updates.

I've tried many different combos the fields, but it keeps giving an error on the updates.

Updating DuckDNS is as simple as hitting URL string to update with your current IP, or you can pass the IP through with another flag in the URL So as simple as

https://www.duckdns.org/update?domains=DOMAIN&token=TOKENID

and it will update your domain with the current IP hitting the URL or you can pass through all the details in the URL

https://www.duckdns.org/update?domains={YOURVALUE}&token={YOURVALUE}[&ip={YOURVALUE}][&ipv6={YOURVAL...]

So its not overly hard from the modems side. My exception for the Smart Modem when I select DuckDNS is for it to ask my Domain name and token ID.

To make it simple for the devs, here is the specs page on how to update

What are you using Ducks DNS for? If you using it for a sever hosted on a PC why not install an updater on the host PC.

Re: Dynamic DNS provider - DuckDNS - How to?

I fail to see why it matters what DuckDNS is used for. I would like the modem to handle the updating of DDNS records, which is feature this modem has.

The Smart modem has DuckDNS listed as a DDNS provider option and it doesn't work. Simple as that.

Hi Andrew
If you have a computer that is on all the time, or at least once every other day, I'd recommend using No-IP to provide you with dynamic DNS services. You can run their computer client on a computer and it does a pretty good job of keeping it their servers up-to-date.

Re: Dynamic DNS provider - DuckDNS - How to?

Thanks OG, yes I'm aware I can run this elsewhere within my network etc and/or use other DDNS providers etc.

The point of this thread, is that DuckDNS is broken in the Smart Modem firmware and needs fixing. They list this provider as a DDNS provider, but it doesn't work.

Trying to contact Telstra support is a nightmare for this issue. First level just don't understand what you're saying, and I was hoping someone from Telstra would pickup the issue and pass it to the correct department for fixing.

Noing Telstra the problem will be fixed by removing DucksDNS from the list DYDNS providers.

Then so be it cf4, its not like it works TODAY, so having it removed is just the same as having it listed and broken to me.

The small chance is that someone with half a brain sees the issue and fixes it, rather than just hiding the issue.
