Modem drops out

My Telstra Gateway Max drops out every time lightning is anywhere near which is very frustrating. It drops out for 10-15 min at a time and when there is no rain around. When this modem was new there were no dropouts in these conditions.

Is this a known problem with this modem as it ages?

My speed has also dropped off from 44 Mb/s which I had for over a year to around 30Mb/s but I assume this is because of a lack of capacity in my area after everyone was required to switch to the NBN.
