Modem issues

Some problems here... I have a Gateway Max Coaxial broadband modem known C6300BD. First problem is that default user name "admin" that can't be changed, from a security standpoint that's bad. My other problem is that there is no HTTPS connection between modem and computer when configuring the modem. Also there is no information on the age of the modems firmware and when it was last patched/updated. I have included a screen shot of the message I get when trying to access my modems IP address. I can still connect to it but Google Chrome's security settings thro a hissy fit saying that connection is not secure. Also there is not a way to add a perfered DNS and IP network monitor service to modems settings.modem.jpeg

Re: Modem issues

c6300bd?

Last firmware update was in 2016 from what i remember: 5510_V10413 . There are no further plans for firmware updates

You can only change the login password unfortunately

There is also no way to manually change the DNS

Re: Modem issues

This is why I don't trust this modem/router, will turn it into a bridge and have way more advanced router handle my network connections. Another reason not to like proprietary hardware because they simply don't care about the end user.

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
