NBN Telstra Modem Speed Issues

Hi,

I have 100mbit NBN connection (via Telstra Co-ax) which today started running at 2mbs.

Rang up telstra they got me to reboot modem etc did not help

Then they asked me to plug ethernet directly into the NBN's modem (to bypass the telstra F@st 5355).  Speed went back to 100mbit or better (for download)!!!.  But of course no VOIP and wireless.

The telstra technical person tried to blame it on congestion - clearly its not when a direct connection works fine.

What is going on?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: NBN Telstra Modem Speed Issues

Hi there,

If processes haven't changed under NBN then you can request a field tech to come out but Telstra will charge you for the service call *if* it turns out to be user error. ie. no fault found

Your testing does seem to point to the Telstra router being at fault but just to be clear, did you reboot the Telstra supplied router? or  was it the NBN modem?

Re: NBN Telstra Modem Speed Issues

Hi,

Thanks for reply, further to this it was only direct Ethernet having a problem not WiFi.

Telstra sent me a new Router (same old F@st5355) and it fixed the Ethernet issue.  Back to 40Mbit during the day even though I pay for 100!

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
