No internet connection when replaced modem

Hi have installed a new modem that is working with my devices that use wifi but my desk top computer which connects to the internet via an Ethernet cable isn't connecting, help please. I plugged my laptop into the Ethernet and the cable works does this mean the port in the back of my computer is broken??

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you

Re: No internet connection when replaced modem

If your computer was working okay with previous modem then the ethernet port is probably Okay. One reason computer is not working could be due to a static IP address being set up on the computers network adapter that is not within the same subnet as the new modem. Check the network adapter on PC is set to use DHCP.

Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > IP settings

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
