Phone not automatically connecting to wifi.

Recently got a Telstra smart modem. The problem I am having is that it won’t automatically connect me to wifi. If I leave home and come back I have to turn off my mobile data manually, wait for the wifi to connect and then turn mobile data back on. This didn’t happen with my other modem which wasn’t a smart modem and is quite annoying.

There have been several reports of WiFi problems with iPhoneX and the Technicolor version of the Gen 2 Smart Modem DJA0231 running the firmware 18.1c.443-950-RB. The model and firmware version is displayed on the left hand side of modem's log in screen.


One solution is to disable band steering in modem's 2.4 GHz WiFi settings this results in -5G being added to the normal SSID of the modem's 5 G WiFi band then only connect modem to the modem's normal SSID (only connect iPhone to 2.4 GHz WiFi).
