Problem connecting to FTTN broadband with non-Telstra modem

Answered

A sad story - I'll try to keep it short.  Have used MacBook Pros for over a decade.  Started having problems with NBN connection with old Telstra Gateway modem and was persuaded by Telstra support to purchase a new Smart Modem Gen 2.  All devices worked fine with this except the MacBook - internet would not load many sites despite no equivalent problem with all other devices and my mobile 4G modem.  Purchased another MacBook Pro - same problem - typically can't load oft-used web sites (eg banking and other large corporate sites) but will do a Google search lightning fast.  Have been pushed back and forth between Apple support and Telstra support.  Purchased another compatible modem (TP-Link Archer VR2800) but can't access internet via my Telstra internet account.  The modem's admin site says I need to obtain the correct connection parameters from Telstra (including , but I can't find them anywhere.

So, my question is: how can I reconfigure my replacement Archer VR2800 modem to access the internet via my Telstra internet account?

Ta for this, cf4.  Will give it a go and confirm success (or failure).

Re: Problem connecting to FTTN broadband with non-Telstra modem

Set up the modem for an VDS IPOE connection type.

Log into modem and go to Basic > Internet

Select

  1. Other as ISP
  2. DSL Modulation Type as VDSL
  3. Remove tick next to VLAN ID
  4. Internet connection Type set to Dynamic IP

See page 14 of manual

Re: Problem connecting to FTTN broadband with non-Telstra modem

Thanks cf4.  This worked - a salutory lesson in not giving up because the Quick Installation Guide doesn't fit all circumstances.  I have now downloaded the manual. Again, thanks for your good advice.

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
