Remote Access Hard drive plugged into modem

Hi, 

I just wanted to know if there was any way of accessing my hard drive which is plugged into my modem remotely from a different wifi. e.g at school

Not easily.

 

On method would be to set up a file server (eg Filezilla Server) on device connected to your network that has the hard drive attached to the modem as one of its shared folders. You would then have to set up a port forwarding rule in the modem pointing to the Device that has the file server. To access the files remotely you would use a FTP client such as Filezilla client

Do you know how i can set this up. and does a laptop need to be on all the time

@Mathew11 If I am away from home and need to access files on my drives/PC I just use Teamviewer

 

You can get android apps for that as well (Not sure about iOS as I don't use that).

i dont have a device/pc that will be on all the time
