Telstra Smart Modem 2 forwarding port 22

ok so after setting up my smart modem 2 I had a port forward for port 22 that worked fine, now its failed, restarting does nothing. I've tried re applying the port forward which when doing so through the Advanced > WAN Services page it gives me a "ports already reserved" red outline for the WAN port. Whats interesting is that popular port checking sites like https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ show it as not open, so it shouldn't be in use.

What I think is happening is that the Telstra modem IS actually using port 22, Technicolor modems are known for this, checking from inside the network you can receive a prompt when ssh'ing to the router, this same prompt comes up when ssh'ing to my public IP. Can someone please tell me

1) why is my router allowing any communication on the wan port 22

2) how can I fix this and finally use the ports I want

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: Telstra Smart Modem 2 forwarding port 22

Have you tried adding rule Basic Home page > Device > Add New Port Mapping. I have discovered that setting port forwarding here does not check if port is already in use.

Telstra Smart Modem

Plug in and connect in minutes. Smart.
