Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan LH1000 WiFi dropping out regularly

I have a Telstra Smart Modem Arcadyan LH1000 with firmware 0.11.11r

 

Every few hours or so I notice that the Wifi on all my devices drops out for maybe 30 seconds or so then reconnects. It is a bit frustrating especially if you are in the middle of a zoom call and it cuts out.

I am not sure why this has been happening and it appears to have started only recently.

 

I have checked the modem logs and this is what it shows whenever it happens:

Any ideas why this is happening and how to resolve it?

The drop outs are caused by the modem changing the 2.4 GHz WiFi channel. This problem has been noticed by quite a few people using the Arcadyan modem. WiFi doctor monitors the surrounding radio networks and tries to reduce interference from neighbouring WiFi networks by changing channels.

 

I have not noticed this problem on my modem probably due to ihave change 2.4 GHz channel from auto to channel 3 and also disabling band steering. Suggest you try disabling band steering in modem's 2.4 GHz WiFi settings. This separates the two WiFi bands by adding -5G to the name of the modem's 5 GHz WiFi settings. Also change the 2,4 GHz WiFi channel from auto to fixed. Use the WiFi scanning graph in the modem at Go to Advanced > Diagnostics > WiFi to pick a channel that has least WiFi interference from neighbouring networks. When saving settings log out of modem and then back in and check changes have been saved as sometimes although a message gets displayed that changes have been applied I have noticed with this modem that sometimes the settings are not changed.

Same thing happening to me.   Keep dropping out, the the agent told me it is the modem that need to be upgraded

Thanks. Will try fixing the channel selection and see if that makes a difference. I'm not a huge fan of separating the Wifi bands as it is much more convenient for the modem to automatically steer to the most appropriate band based on the client capabilities. Many of my devices are also a bit older and support 2.4Ghz only.

I tried manually changing the channel but unfortunately the channel automatically changes again after a few hours when the Wifi Dr kicks in and updates the channel list. It seems like there is no way of disabling it.

Do you have any smart devices connected to your network like the SmartThingsV3 Hub which use zigbee?

Yes, I do have a number of smart devices that are connected directly to WiFi without a hub.

Just adding my 2c, that I too am having this problem, and it's quite frustrating. Even with Wifi set to 

manual channel width, channel, selection interval set to 172800, band steering off, etc it still the WiFi Dr turning up and disabling wifi radio.
