Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

Thanks for the helpful guide, Its unbelievable that there are still many bugs in the firmware regarding Static and Port Forwarding limits. Its a shame as it seems to be a powerful modem regarding wifi, etc but is crippled by poor firmware.

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

Hi cf4

Thanks so much for providing this manual. I just received my new Gen2 Arcadyan LH1000 modem yesterday from Telstra to replace the Gen 1 modem I've had for 2yrs+, and was disappointed with the "manual" that came with it in the box - too simple and doesn't really explain how to custom configure anything.

Anyhoo, I was wondering if there is a way to custom name each device on the LAN rather than rely on the default names each device produces. I recall back when I had the Gen1 (or maybe even when I had the Technicolor Gateway) that I could rename all my connected devices so I could tell which is which, especially when having to assign static IPs. Can this be done on the LH1000?

Cheers and more power to you!

I have not been able to find any settings in this modem where you can manually change the name of connected devices.

An excellent document for the DJA0230 but, unfortunately, I have the CFC32C. I don’t suppose you’ve created a manual for that in your spare time? I’ve been trying to set up DDNS without success and finding ambiguous documentation.

You’re absolutely correct, I misread the label. It’s an Arcadian LH1000. Is there a manual for it?

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

This is for the Arcadyan LH1000.

Suggest you use NOIP as you provider and set up as per the document. I know that those settings work. I have not tried with setting up an dynamic DNS with DYNU.

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

I understand but adding to the difficulty is that my screens differ from that in the document, especially the DDNS screen where there is no place for DYNU’s address, if indeed that’s important.  I must have a different software release.

Where you entered dynu.com instead enter the URL that you created for your dynamic DNS

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

That’s what I did and followed by the relevant username and password. The software responds  thar that my created URL does not exist.

The address dynu.com is specified in this post https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Home-Broadband/Setting-up-DDNS/m-p/854431

"DYNDNS (Dropdown)

dynu.com

<username>
<password>"

You have the same version firmware as my modem and on my modem there is a "Domain" field between the "service Name" field and the "User Name" field.

Yes if you selected freddy.com as your URL that is what you enter in the Domain box.

Have you tried installing the updater for DYNDNS on a PC or MAC. When installed and set up with your account it should list all your domains.

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

No. You can either use the software on the PC to do the updating or the Dynamic DNS updater in the modem. The updater software on the PC will update the dynamic dns instead of the modem updating the dynamic dns. It should also display the url that should be used in the modem.

There is a guide to using the update software at link below.

Ok, the ability to access my intranet externally should work with only the modem and it isn’t and I’d like to work out why. I know it should work so where have I gone wrong.

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

I don't know were you have gone wrong but if you can get the updater software on the computer it will display what entries you should use in the dynamic DNS settings on the computer. One thing you should use is dynamic DNS key as the password on the modem settings and not the password for your dyn account.

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

Ok, after some modem problems unrelated to this issue, I decided to go back to the setup I had before the recent house move. I ditched the Telstra box and replaced it with my Netgear AC1900 R7000 router running DD-WRT. I configured DDNS and a forwarded port and now I can access my PLEX server remotely. Mission accomplished and thank you for your assistance.

HI CF4

Thats a great Manual you have put together.

I am trying to resolve an issue with my Surface Pro 4 in which the WIFI speed seems to be throttled to 1.8 MPS.  From some Online research it looks like I should try changing the Router settings from long preamble to short preamble?  I have had a look around the Router settings but cannot find this option.

Would you by any chance know how to do this?

Cheers

Re: Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 Arcadyan version (LH1000) unofficial manual

There are no preamble WiFi settings in the modem. You could try changing WiFi channels in the modem. There is setting you could try changing in the surface pro 4. See link below.

Hi CF4,

This is a great guide, thank you. Question: is it possible to setup a VPN router while using the Telstra Smart Gen 2 modem as the primary router? I cant find any VPN passthrough settings. Is it enabled by default? I have been trying to setup my Asus DSL-AC68U as a VPN router all weekend but to no avail. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
