Telstra smart modem gen 2 Wan ethernet speed limited

When connected, the ethernet port on the Wan (public) interface of the router is set to 10mb.

This is observed via the advanced - >broadband->ethernet link status status.

This means I can never get more than 10mb on my 25mb link.

This has been the case when it was connected to the original Telstra cable adapter box and when I got the NBN termination equipment.

Have checked the cable by connecting laptop straight to NBN termination box and get full speed. Have tried two cables. Same result.

Have tried switching on and off and factory restore. Same issue.

Very occasionally it will come up as 100mb but it lasts for minutes and drops back.

Help line worse than useless as it's not on their script. They refuse to listen.

Has to be a dud box.

Any ideas ?

Have you tried factory resetting the modem? What firmware version is the modem. The firmware version number is displayed on left hand side of modem's log in screen.
