Telstra WiFi - Join existing WiFi?

Out of the box our Telstra NBN Modem creates its own WiFi network.

We already have a WiFi network at home.

Is there a way to configure the Telstra NBN Modem to join/extend our existing WiFi?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: Telstra WiFi - Join existing WiFi?

It is possible, but you need to let us know the make/model of the Telstra NBN Modem and your existing router/modem to get more directed details...

Re: Telstra WiFi - Join existing WiFi?

Would also be handy to know what type of NBN connection (HFC  FTTC  FTTN, FTTB or fixed wireless)

For most types of connections you can connect your existing router directly to NBN.

If you use the Telstra modem its LAN IP address and the WiFi name and password can be changed to match that of existing network.

Re: Telstra WiFi - Join existing WiFi?

Thank you for your reply

Dashboard says the connection is NBN HFC

Very interested in any links on how to manually assign Telstra modem LAN IP so it matches existing network.

Re: Telstra WiFi - Join existing WiFi?

You can connect your existing router to NBN NTD if you don't require a backup. The Telstra modem can be connected to LAN port of of existing router if you require a phone service.

There are instructions for changing LAN IP address of the Arcadyan modem in section 27 of the document linked in this post. The instructions are similar for the Technicolor modem. There is a link on the first page of the document for the Technicolor modem.
