Using Telstra Smart Modem 2 with a person data sim

Answered

A mate of mine has a spare Telstra smart modem gen 2. I currently use a data sim for my home internet. If I were to borrow his modem, would it be possible to use it as a 4g router without any wired connection?

And if it works, I know the usual 4g backup speeds are limited to 12mbps. Would that still be the case with a personal sim?

Yes you can use a normal mobile data SIM and speed will not be throttled. See reply two in this thread. The modem only supports 4G so want work in 3G only areas.
