V7610 continually disconnecting

I am now on my second v7610 in 4 weeks. It works for a few hours on installation then starts disconnecting from the internet almost hourly requiring reboot. The username and password need to be re entered manually on each reboot. The current one is on firmware version 28  the previous one the technician installed an earlier version firmware to avoid manual entry each time. I revert to my very old Telstra modem which does not drop out to keep my sanity
