Re: What is "Wi-Fi PMF" setting on Telstra Smart Modem?

Hi - That's a new Wi-Fi Alliance setting that has snuck into both bands of the modem after the latest firmware Version 0.11.11r of the Arcadyan Gen 2 modem. It is an abbreviation for Protected Management Frames. Why it is disabled on default is not clear - perhaps in readiness for a possible future WPA2/WPA3 support. If you look up the term on Google, you will find good explanations of what it does to improve privacy on the Wi-Fi Network. Unaware if the devices have to support the function in order for it to work. The DJA0230 and DJA0231 Technicolor modems do not show this feature in their latest firmware versions.

Re: What is "Wi-Fi PMF" setting on Telstra Smart Modem?

Just a correction to my original reply thanks to a tip from @Yastiandrie  - the feature is indeed supported on the Technicolor DJA0231 modem 18.1.c 514-950 RB at the bottom of the long Wi-Fi Page in the Advanced section, selection box title "Protection Management Frames" and contrary to the Arcadyan, is Enabled on Default. It doesn't show up in the DJA0230 18.1.c.0462-950 RA firmware I have - not sure if a newer version has been released.

Re: What is "Wi-Fi PMF" setting on Telstra Smart Modem?

AFAIK it hasn't made it to gen 1's @Mkrtich

https://www.wi-fi.org/knowledge-center/faq/what-are-protected-management-frames

It's default is enabled on Technicolor's but disabled on Arcadyan's (Will be changed to default on in a later update). Recommended it be toggled on and shouldn't interfere for the most part with devices that can't use it, but older or obscure devices may have compatibility problems with it full stop if they have not received updates that acknowledge its existence (in theory this shouldn't happen as it is not exactly 'new' but it is up to the developers/manufacturers to ensure their devices are fully compliant with industry standards, and the amount of devices actually requiring it to be an enabled setting on a Wi-Fi network are on the increase E.g new Nokia devices)
