Calls turn in to robot voice

I am on a Google Pixel 3 XL. When i speak to my mum or my brother who are both on iPhones. About 1-2 minutes in to the call they turn in to a robot voice. The audio becomes all digitally sounding and wrong. It is quite annoying and frustrating.

Not the first person with a Pixel to have this problem.

 

Is your phone using VoLTE fo the phonecall, or is it using 3G (ie a standard voice call)?

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
