Compatibility

I will be visiting Australia next year and I want to get a SIM card - so I have a phone number to give out prior to arrival. I checked the Telstra website for compatibility but got a message that indicated they were not sure the phone would work on the Telstra network. All I really need to do is voice messages and texting. The phone is a Samsung GT-E 1182 L. Can anyone advise if it will work on the network?

It should work on the 2G network as it is a standard 900/1800MHz phone.  Coverage won't extend too far out of Major Population Centres however.
