Answered

I'm travelling on a cruise to New Caledonia and Vanuatu and unfortunately will have to make and receive calls. If I purhcase a Travel Pass will I get coverage whilst on board?

Re: International roaming

No. Not onboard, and not in New Caledonia. The Travel Pass will only work in Vanuatu.

You can check using the itinery planner here.

Onboard Ship, your rates would be (look under Cruise Ship Services):

Make and receive a call $5.00 per minute
Send SMS 75c
Receive SMS Free
Data $3.00 per MB
charged per KB
Send MMS Standard charges*
+ $3.00 per MB
Receive MMS $3.00 per MB
MessageBank® $5.00 per minute

And in New Caledonia (and Vanuatu if no Travel Pass):

Make and receive a call $2.00 per minute
Send SMS 75c
Receive SMS Free
Data $3.00 per MB
charged per KB
Send MMS Standard charges*
+ $3.00 per MB
Receive MMS $3.00 per MB
MessageBank® $2.00 per minute
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Re: International roaming

Further to Jupiters advice, be cautious on the ship! Depending on the Ship, there is an increasing trend for ships to promote phone and data use, and they are less than clear on the charges, but be assured that on-board use is high and not covered under a travel pass
