Oneplus pro 8 no longer getting 5G

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

 

So, I recently put in an international sim for roaming testing which I know disables 5G. I took the SIM out and restarted the phone and ever since then, I have not been able to get 5G connection.

 

Solutions tried below:

 

  1. I've tried swapping the SIM card into the other slot, restarting
  2. Tried a network reset which reset my WiFi, bluetooth and data network
  3. I've tried putting in the telstra.iph APN
  4. I've tried other telstra default APNs
  5. I've tried reseting the APN to default
  6. I've tried putting it into aeroplane mode and off
  7. I've tried bringing the automatic network connection to 3G then back to 5G

So far none of the above have worked, I tried ordering a replacement sim but they denied it because I'm a fresh customer (started last month). Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. That confirms that Oppo stuffed up their firmware.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Have you disabled the second SIM slot's service? Some Dual SIM phones do not work with 5G if the second SIM slot has been used. It needs to be disabled in settings to get 5G working again.

 

The final option is the dreaded Factory Reset.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

I have disabled the second SIM, there's only one SIM in there now

 

I think I might have to factory reset, I did some digging and apparently one plus 8 pro has someo weird issues with the carrier policy not enabling 5G.

The Google Pixel 5 & iPhone 12 suffer from similar problems, and it's not just limited to Australia. They have a way to go to get their firmware operating properly with Dual SIM devices and 5G.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

I'm glad to know it's not just a phone issue then, although if there's any alternative to factory reseting a phone, I'd love to hear it lol

Unfortunately, you've tried all the options that I can think of short of the factory reset.

 

Make sure that you back up everything first.

Same issue here.  Upgraded to android 11, now 5G is dead.

Hi all,

 

Apologies replying, unfortunately a factory reset and wiping the phone (power + volume down) still didn't fix the 5G however the 5G option is there, so not sure why it's not picking up 5G now

Are you still experiencing the same issue? Is it only 5G not working?

Does 4G, VoLTE and VoWIFI still all work?

 

I wanted to buy the OnePlus 8T, i can live without 5G, but not the other stuff.

Hi,

 

I am experiencing the same thing on my European Oneplus 8 Pro. Was working, then it wasnt late 2020.

I thought it was the Telstra plans moving 5G access around, but after a lot of testing ive proved its not.

Unfortnatly i also have a Hong Kong imported Samsung Galaxy S21 (Qualcomm, dual sim) that also doesnt connect to 5G. Swapped sims with a coleague with an Australian S21 Ultra and it works on his.

I use LTE Discovery (5G version) to confirm the radio bands being used. I cannot connect to 5G on either device, full stop.

This appears to be a far greater issue then even the Oneplus.

Update from my Hong Kong SGS21 with the same issue.

I put my sim card in Slot 2 and im not getting 5G. Will try in slot 2 on my OnePlus tonight and update.

One thing to check is to which SIM is enabled for automatic 5G access (only one SIM can access 5G at a time).

 

Otherwise, being non-Australian models, the carrier settings may not be correct in the phones.

Thank you, but myself and the users here are well across these things, and certainly knowing what devices can support the network. There are some bigger and stranger issues going on then system settings.

As we said in regards to the OnePlus 8 Pro, it was working last year.

I will try Sim2 later as it has solved it for my Dual Sim Samsung Galaxy S21 today.

With the OnePlus 8 Pro, had the firmware been updated around the time that it stopped working?

 

Also, for anyone else who is having problems with the OnePlus 8 Pro and 5G. If you have the European, Indian, or Chinese versions, it will only work on the 3500MHz Band, and if you have the North American version, it will only work on the 850MHz band.

 

You can check the bands used by towers in your area via https://rfnsa.com.au

If you go to https://forums.oneplus.com you will also see that it is a Global problem that Oppo hasn't fixed yet.

They need to update the firmware correctly for it to work reliably. There have been instances in Europe and the USA where they had 5G connectivity and then it was removed by an Oppo update.

It stopped working for me, for any software update i installed after ;

Android 11, Oxygen OS 11.IN11AA, Model IN2020

 

I downgraded everything back to this version, and 5G works just fine... but of course, now im being promoted to update my software every day, which i am hesitant to do so.
